Hi, this is Rusty and I wanted to highlight a letter we just received from Brittany Smith who is a member of the UC Berkeley Cycling Team. We have sponsored the team for 2013 and now 2014 and we are glad to see that our donations are making a difference.

Garmin Edge 510 donations are helping to improve the Cal Cycling team.

Here is Brittany’s letter:

Recently, I’ve started to devote a lot of time to cycling (mainly road); only recently did I

Brittany has discovered a true love in cycling, which is so cool to see. I hope it carries her in life.

start racing and riding long distances. It’s been a little over a year since I purchased my first road bike and since then I’ve been hooked. I buy most of my cycling products/gear as a student, and I’ve wanted a Garmin bike computer as I’ve seen many use them almost religiously on rides to record their stats – all having nothing but great things to say about these computers.

When I saw the offer Cal Cycling gave to anyone who wrote a convincing enough couple of paragraphs to borrow the computer for a year, I couldn’t turn it down. Without a doubt, the Garmin Edge 510 has really improved my cycling experience/performance, and exceeded all my expectations. It’s accurate, and allows me to graduate from my analog wrist watch and cell phone; so everything is much more effective in improving myself as a cyclist. (Rusty Note: Once you leave your cell phone you will never go back :))

This is the same Edge 510 kit Brittany received with the cadence, heart rate monitor and Garmin Edge out front bike mount.

I’m still learning all the other modes it has to offer, which I’m very excited about – only recently did I figure out the finger swipe that changes the display! Being one of the only female cyclists on the team, I’m surrounded by a lot of speedy guys. I find myself cycling alone more often than not, so it’s definitely nice to be able to use such a device that can motivate and push me to go faster and farther by having all the info I need right in front of me.

My only critique is that the touch screen (although extremely novel and far more useful for the most part) can sometimes be difficult to deal with while riding – when I want to swipe to the other screen, it can be difficult, and doesn’t swipe with as much ease as say, an iPhone or some other touch screen interface. Otherwise, it’s truly a cyclist’s dream product, now that I’ve been spoiled with the Edge 510, I’ll be sad to have to give it back, but hope I can one day have my own!

Thanks so much, and thanks for supporting Cal Cycling. I speak for all of us, as we all truly appreciate it.

Brittany Smith

Thanks, Britanny for the honest opinion. Pretty much corroborates what we have been telling people for 5 years or more.
